sethgrayI came across this disturbing link to a piece of legislation today that would force creative artists to register their copyrights with a privately owned company or else loose any right to compensation for infringement. This is a drastic backwards step from modern copyright where everyone is entitled to automatic copyright for any original work.
The proposed Orphan Works legislation will drastically change American
copyright law if passed as currently written. These changes will
negatively impact visual artists of all disciplines as well as writers,
musicians and filmmakers. (http://www.owoh.org/index.php)
Please post a link in your journal, and get all your friends to do it as well. Then click on the link and sign the petition. Everyone has a friends list that is slightly different from everyone else's. If all of those different people can be reached maybe the petition will garner enough signatures for Congress to take notice.
