You know what makes me eye roll? No, seriously, you know what just makes me go "bitch, please?" When Christians claim that it's only Christians that "sweeping generalities" are made against. Um, hello? Have you ever watched FOX news? Don't you know every brown-skin is a secret Muslim terrorist? Jesus Christ, people.

(Also, don't you love how my icon is a sparsely dressed, not from America, powerful female pagan? ^_^)

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone knew some good communities to post in if you need to find some shit out. I have a few questions about certain legalities that are going to pop up in some fiction. Specifically the nuts and bolts of restraining orders, as well a few other things. I looked on Wiki but it didn't say what I wanted to know.

I needed something clean and simple, so I've switched up my theme colors. I never know why I bother making these posts because the next time I make a theme-change post this one will be useless because you won't be able to see what it was I changed it from. Oh well. It makes me feel better to give peeps a heads-up, I guess.

I'm an atheist who wants to believe in God
I'm a cynic who wants to fall in love
I'm a humanist who thinks people suck
I'm a naive boy who opened his heart too much

I love badly
There's nothing for it, I just love badly

I'm the smart one that hated school
I'm the nice one that followed all the rules
I'm the one with vague goals I never set
I'm the one missing a man I haven't even met

I love badly
There's nothing for it, I just love badly

I want to believe in love so badly it hurts
But I'm a fury I can't put it into words

I love badly
There's nothing for it, I just love badly

So this insanely talented fanfic writer [livejournal.com profile] leonidaslion has been doing this cool thing with a prompt table where she only writes a short little bit for each prompt, but they are all connected. Somehow she has managed to tell a complete story by the end, just by a short little update each time. I am ichingly (shuddup, it's a word) curious to try it, but it's like--I have enough damn stories I'm not updating. Still, the format appeals to me greatly, and I would really love to give it a whirl some day.

Maybe I could use it as a warm-up, and just write a short one each day. I mean they would have to be short because if I wrote a full-chapter sized update I wouldn't write anymore that day, probably. I dunno. We'll see what happens, I just really like the idea. *shrugs*

(Note: Copied wholesale from here.)

Clay and his partner of 20 years, Harold, lived in California. Clay and Harold made diligent efforts to protect their legal rights, and had their legal paperwork in place--wills, powers of attorney, and medical directives, all naming each other. Harold was 88 years old and in frail medical condition, but still living at home with Clay, 77, who was in good health.

One evening, Harold fell down the front steps of their home and was taken to the hospital. Based on their medical directives alone, Clay should have been consulted in Harold's care from the first moment. Tragically, county and health care workers instead refused to allow Clay to see Harold in the hospital. The county then ultimately went one step further by isolating the couple from each other, placing the men in separate nursing homes.

Ignoring Clay's significant role in Harold's life, the county continued to treat Harold like he had no family and went to court seeking the power to make financial decisions on his behalf. Outrageously, the county represented to the judge that Clay was merely Harold's "roommate." The court denied their efforts, but did grant the county limited access to one of Harold's bank accounts to pay for his care.

What happened next is even more chilling.

Without authority, without determining the value of Clay and Harold's possessions accumulated over the course of their 20 years together or making any effort to determine which items belonged to whom, the county took everything Harold and Clay owned and auctioned off all of their belongings. Adding further insult to grave injury, the county removed Clay from his home and confined him to a nursing home against his will. The county workers then terminated Clay and Harold's lease and surrendered the home they had shared for many years to the landlord.

Three months after he was hospitalized, Harold died in the nursing home. Because of the county's actions, Clay missed the final months he should have had with his partner of 20 years. Compounding this tragedy, Clay has literally nothing left of the home he had shared with Harold or the life he was living up until the day that Harold fell, because he has been unable to recover any of his property. The only memento Clay has is a photo album that Harold painstakingly put together for Clay during the last three months of his life.

With the help of a dedicated and persistent court-appointed attorney, Anne Dennis of Santa Rosa, Clay was finally released from the nursing home. Ms. Dennis, along with Stephen O'Neill and Margaret Flynn of Tarkington, O'Neill, Barrack & Chong, now represent Clay in a lawsuit against the county, the auction company, and the nursing home, with technical assistance from NCLR. A trial date has been set for July 16, 2010 in the Superior Court for the County of Sonoma.

Guys this is why marriage equality is so important. Things like this wouldn't happen, or at least couldn't happen as easily, if GLBT people had full legal protection. Please help spread the word about this.

Make-up

Mar. 28th, 2010 11:26 pm
sethgray: (Default)
So, I've been having this interest in make-up recently. I don't really know where it came from, but lately it seems like something I'd like to try. Especially eyeliner. Part of that last is just that I think guys in eyeliner (the dubiously coined "guyliner") is just plain hot, so there's that. Not that it would look especially hot on me, but I guess you never know until you try.

And then there's the matter of acne. Since it doesn't seem inclined to leave me be any time soon I might as well start experimenting with concealer and what-not. *shrugs* I dunno. Maybe I'll even catalog my attempts on LJ. Wouldn't that be hilarious?

Watch one inept gay guy put goop on his face! Fun for the whole family! Hee, I could start a journal and call it man-up.

Okay, that's quite enough rambling for one evening.

EDIT: [livejournal.com profile] manupproject Well there it is. Don't know that I'll do anything with it, but eh.

Or listen to my music. I just signed up for a Blip.fm account and a Formspring account.
sethgray: (Default)
So it's been over a month since my last posting, and am I making some big, grand return to the blogosphere? Nope! I just wanted to say that blip.fm is freaking cool. It's twitter with music. Seriously.
sethgray: (Default)
So I'm wondering if I should just remove the most recent writing section from my sidebar. I haven't updated it in forever. Hell, chapter 28 was literally months ago, and I have written much more recently than that. Not as recently as I'd like, I wanted to get some more original stuff up on my website but then my girls came to see me and I get sick.

On another layout note, I'm surprised the colors have lasted this long. Usually I get bored much more quickly than this.

If I see another one of those goddamned wedding ring commercials, I swear to god. Every time I see one of those women gasp in surprise I just wanna scream "YOU'RE A GROWN WOMAN, BITCH! PICK YOUR OWN DAMN JEWELRY!! GRRR ARRRRGGGH!"
sethgray: (Default)
The new full-page, take-over-the-screen ads on here suck fungus-covered donkey balls. I hate them and they should die. That is all.
