I was just browsing through Dan Savage's blog, and this particularly repugnant poster basically said that gay people should stop bitching about discrimination because being gay was a choice, unlike being black or being Jewish.

What. The. Fuck?

First, being gay is absolutely not a choice, and second? Last time I checked, Judaism was not a race, it was a religion and religion is completely, 100% a choice.

Seth, that person just commented to Dan Savage's blog to piss off people like you and I.

Most people who read Dan's blog know he is gay and the bulk of the people are totally down with the whole to each his own thing and don't make stupid statements like that, unless they are specifically trying to get a rise out of us.

Just ignore it for what it is.

No, I know that. It's just that, apparently religion is less of a choice than sexuality. That doesn't even make sense.

I think my problem is that I expect people to actual have points when they're debating, and they so rarely do.

I really shouldn't let it get to me, but christ. It just blew my mind that something as completely voluntary as religion should be more protected than sexuality. Even if sexuality was a choice, religion is a choice as well. There's anti-discrimination laws for religious preference, so what's the damn difference?

It just bugs me that their arguments don't even make sense with their own logic. *sigh*
