Every time I see a character with my name in fiction, I always get this little jolt. Like surprise or something. Is that cause Seth is a pretty rare name as far as names go, or are other people this way?

I definitely do that too. Sara (or the more common spelling, "Sarah"), isn't exactly a rare name, but it still trips me up every time I read it in a story.

There is a very common spelling of my name that I see a lot in fiction and that doesn't really jolt me because it's not REALLY my name... it just sounds like my name. I do get surprised when I see my actual name in a story though. I get bummed if the character sucks because it's so rare. Darn it, I deserve to be the Mary Sue in at least one story! I'm sure all the Sarah's and Emily's have lots of great characters that share their name.

Lol, I hadn't thought of that, the character sharing your name sucking.

I used to expect "Philip" to be attached to villains.

It really isn't used very much. Maybe somehow because in English it not only can be spelled two different ways but gets the second vowel pronounced three different ways.

Hmm, is there a surplus of villains named Philip? I haven't noticed...

Not really, just not a lot of heroes.

My name is rare enough that I have yet to have one character in any story I've read share it.
There is a movie from 2001 with the french version of my name (Amelie) and I was all 'yay! people might get my name kind of right after this!' but I was disappointed.

Seth isn't all that rare...we had two in just our tiny high school and there were two or three I knew in Oklahoma.

It's still a pretty rare name. Not as rare as it used to be, but still not common.
