If I see another one of those goddamned wedding ring commercials, I swear to god. Every time I see one of those women gasp in surprise I just wanna scream "YOU'RE A GROWN WOMAN, BITCH! PICK YOUR OWN DAMN JEWELRY!! GRRR ARRRRGGGH!"

It's paternalistic.
The guy who surprises her with it, picked the ring out that if she accepts she will have to wear for years and years until he dies or they divorce or if she's smart she loses and gets to chose the one she really would have wanted.

It's all sales hype any way. *shrugs*

No, it is not all the woman's fault, but she definitely shares some blame. If she had made it clear that marriage was something they were undertaking together and that the ring was something they would be buying together then the guy would know not to spring that patriarchal bullshit.

They just make me crazy.
